The Story

Great destinations aren't remembered because of brochures.

They're remembered because of experiences.

Since 2021, Rettew Creative has partnered with H3 Marketing to help tell the story of Lake Hartwell Country, a region stretching across Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens counties where outdoor adventure, small towns, local businesses, and Southern hospitality come together to create unforgettable experiences.

Working alongside H3 Marketing, the goal has been to create an authentic visual library that reflects the people, places, and businesses that make Lake Hartwell Country unique.

Rather than promoting destinations, the work focuses on revealing the experiences waiting for visitors.

The Challenge

Capturing an Entire Region Through Individual Stories

A destination is never just one location.

It is the collection of people, businesses, communities, and experiences that together create a sense of place.

The challenge was creating visual content that represented the diversity of Lake Hartwell Country while maintaining a consistent storytelling style across multiple communities and seasons.

Each business profile needed to feel authentic on its own while contributing to a larger regional story.

The Approach

Storytelling Across Seasons

Authentic tourism storytelling requires patience.

The same location feels different in spring than it does during fall colors.

Over multiple years, Rettew Creative has traveled throughout Lake Hartwell Country documenting restaurants, outdoor recreation, historic communities, local businesses, artisans, and tourism experiences.

Production has included both spring and fall seasons, allowing the region's changing landscape to become part of the story itself. Recent production plans include two multi-day seasonal shoots each year focused on business profiles, on-location interviews, supporting b-roll, and professional photography.

By combining documentary interviews, environmental visuals, and photography, the project has built a growing visual library that H3 Marketing can use across campaigns, websites, publications, and digital marketing efforts.

Bobby Rettew

Bobby Rettew is a husband, father, award winning storyteller, published author, educator for Anderson University and Clemson Center for Corporate Learning, business owner of Rettew Creative, and business partner for Touch Point Media podcast network. He also serves as the chair of the communications committee and deacon at Boulevard Baptist Church, board member for the Fort Hill Clemson Club, and vice-chair for Anderson County’s Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.
